The Lily Lineup: Pick your bloom and perfect perfume!

Lilies are summer’s floral royalty—tall, elegant, and dripping with charm. They bring serious flair to any bouquet with their dramatic petals and tall stems. But their distinct perfumes add another layer to their personality—some are delicate and inviting, others bold and unforgettable.

🌿 Want to Try Growing a Few?

Even if you don’t consider yourself a gardener, lilies are fairly low-maintenance once planted.

Here’s a mini how-to:

  • Planting:
Bulbs go in the ground in spring or fall—about 6 inches deep in well-drained soil.

  • Sunlight:
Full sun is best (6+ hours).

  • Watering:
Water regularly, especially during dry spells, but avoid soggy soil.

  • Mulch:
Helps keep moisture in and weeds out.

  • Support:
Taller lilies may need staking to keep those gorgeous blooms upright.

✂️ How to Pick Them

  • Cut lilies when the bottom bud just starts to open.

  • Always use sharp snips and cut in the morning or evening when the plant is most hydrated.

  • Strip off lower leaves before putting stems in water to avoid rot.

  • Keep pollen off petals—it can stain!

Cats and Lilies: A Dangerous Mix

Lilies are gorgeous—but they’re toxic to cats. Even a tiny nibble on leaves, petals, or pollen can cause serious kidney failure. The water in a vase with lilies can be dangerous too!

If you have cats, keep lilies far out of reach—or better yet, maybe sit this one out.

👃 Not All Lilies Are Created Equal

Lilies can come with a fragrance that ranges from heavenly to whoa, that’s a lot.
Oriental and Trumpet lilies are the most strongly scented (think Bath and Body headache).

If you or your kiddos are scent-sensitive, we highly recommend Asiatic lilies (no scent) or LA Hybrid lilies (mild, pleasant, and very vase-friendly).

Lucky for you—that’s exactly what we have available this week.
